My fiancé gave me a Kindle eReader as a graduation gift this past summer and I fell in love! ...and about a month and a half later Amazon released an updated version of the device. The newer version is skinnier and comes in two colors, but I still love my Kindle 2 because it does what I need it to do - hold a HUGE amount of books while giving me the ability to play fun word games and surf the web. Right now I have about 500 books saved on my Kindle and over 98% of them were free! In fact I've bought less than 5 Kindle eBooks since I've owned my device. Find out how after the jump!
I still don't remember how I stumbled upon this gem of a website...but somehow in the first few days of Kindle ownership I discovered a site that not only has really detailed posts about all things Kindle, it also maintains a list of free Kindle eBooks. Every morning when I turn on my computer THIS is the very first website I visit! Sometimes I even check it right before bedtime to make sure I stay on top of the freebies. Lest you think these free eBooks are free because they aren't any good, think again! I've picked up some really good books from all genres. If you already own a Kindle, you can also go to the Kindle store from your device and click Kindle Top Sellers. This list is separated into 2 sub lists of paid and free books and it is a great way to see what some of the hot items are. One more tip that I've picked up is that you can actually search for the free books yourself right from the Amazon site. In the search bar type: -public -breakthrough (include the dashes). You'll get a list of thousands of books and will need to sort them so you can clearly see what you have. Sort the books according to price (lowest first) and all the free books will be at the top of the list. It is important to do one or all of these regularly as some free eBooks are only available for a certain amount of time.
